Biology grace marks report by PU Board Committee - 2019
Karnataka PU Board received so many complaints regarding tough questions in biology paper and many questions are out of syllabus. So many were demanding for grace marks or re-exam.
After receiving complaints via email and helpline calls, Karnataka PU Director P.C Jafar constituted a committee of 3 members to review the Biology paper conducted on 14 - March 2019.
After analysis of Biology question paper, committee gave the report that, the questions were from within the NCERT syllabus hence no grace marks will be awarded.
Karnataka PUC Director P.C Jafar said that, The students have referred guides and previous year question papers only instead of going through the entire NCERT syllabus hence students face the difficulty in exam.
Knowledge based questions must carry 42 Marks
Understanding based questions must carry 33 Marks
Applications based questions must carry 15 Marks
Skill based questions must carry 15 Marks.
As per complain given by Lectures and students, percentage of skill based questions is more and difficulty level questions are of NEET and CET level. So lectures and students are demanding for re exam or department should give grace marks.
NOTE: Chances of Conducting Re-Exam is very Less
Why should PU Board give grace marks?
Students are demanding for grace marks for difficulty level questions asked in 5 Marks section,because papers is not set by according to exam paper setting rule.
For KCET result to display, KCET considers 50% of marks obtained in theory exams so if grace marks not allotted then it will be huge loss to students.
What PU Board Director replied?
Upon receiving many complaints by students and lectures, Karnataka PU Board Director constituted a committee of three experts to review the paper if complaints are valid then they will decide whether to give grace marks or not.
Meeting is held on friday comprising 3 subject experts and decision will be announced on Monday.
If committee deems the question paper is very tough and recommends for grace marks then board will give grace marks to students who attempted questions.
1) According to report, 46 Marks were knowledge based and easy questions.
2) Skill based questions on diagrams were asked .
3) All the questions were from NCERT Text book only so no grace marks will be awarded.
4) Average students can easily score 50 out of 70 marks easy
Director of the Karnataka PU Board P.C Jafar advised to students to go through the NCERT text book line by line instead of referring guides .
But the paper was not according to blue print.though it was from ncert
