MOMA scholarship details |Minority scholarship schemes 2019 









MOMA scholarships are minority scholarships initiated by the Ministry of Minority Affairs. Under the MOMA scholarship scheme, students belonging to the minority communities of Muslim, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist, Jain and Zoroastrian (Parsi) can avail Pre-matric scholarships, Post-matric scholarships and Merit-cum-Means Scholarship for Professional and Technical Courses. The winners of these national minority scholarships receive a scholarship amount of up to INR 20,000 per annum. The Government of India intends to disburse 30 lakh scholarships under pre-matric scholarship scheme, 5 Lakh scholarships under post-matric scholarship scheme and 60,000 scholarships under merit-cum-means scholarship for technical or professional courses at graduate or postgraduate level.

The MOMA scholarships are of three types.

1. Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme for Minorities

Initiated to support minority students’ studies at the pre-matric level, the scholarship awards up to INR 600 monthly to students of class 1 to 10. To be eligible to apply for this pre-matric minority scholarship, applicants’ family income must not be more than INR 1 Lakh and their score in the previous final examination should not be less than 50%.

2. Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme for Minorities

Under the post-matric scholarship scheme, minority students studying in class 11 to Ph.D. can apply. The applicants’ family income must not be more than INR 2 Lakhs and their marks or equivalent grades in the previous final examination should not be less than 50%. The selected students of this national minority scholarship get a scholarship amount of up to INR 10,000 per annum along with a maintenance amount of up to INR 1200 per month.

3. Merit-cum-Means Scholarship for Professional and Technical Courses CS

The merit-cum-means scholarship under the MOMA scheme is meant for students who wish to pursue professional or technical courses at the graduate or postgraduate level. A scholarship amount of up to INR 20,000 per annum is given to the selected students. Under this national minority scholarship, the applicants’ family income must not exceed INR 2.5 Lakhs. Also, the applicants must have scored at least 50% marks in their previous final exam in order to be eligible for this minority scholarship.

MOMA Scholarships – Rewards

The students selected for these minority scholarships receive financial assistance for the entire course in the form of admission, course/tuition fee and maintenance allowance. The maintenance allowance is given to students for a period of 10 months in an academic year. The details of scholarship amounts are highlighted below.

MOMA Scholarships – Eligibility

In order to apply for the national minority scholarships, the students belonging to minority communities must be studying in India in a government or private institution selected and notified by the concerned State Government/Union Territory Administration in a transparent manner. The details about the eligibility criteria are highlighted below.

  1. Students must be studying in class 1 to 10.
  2. Students must have scored have at least 50% marks in the previous final exam.

  1. Students of class 11 and 12 are eligible under this scholarship scheme.
  2. Students who have taken admission in technical and vocational courses in ITI/Industrial Training Centres affiliated with NCVT (at class 11 & 12 level) can also apply.
  3. Students who are pursuing Polytechnics and other courses are also eligible to apply.
  4. Students must have scored at least 50% marks in the previous final exam.
Note: Certificate courses and any other courses of less than one-year duration are not covered under this scheme.
The annual family income must not be more than INR 2 Lakhs.
Merit-cum-Means Scholarship for Professional and Technical Courses CS

  1. Students who have taken admission in technical/professional courses at the graduate or postgraduate level are eligible to apply.
  2. Students must have secured not less than 50% marks in the previous final exam.
The annual family income must not be more than INR 2.5 Lakhs from all sources.

MOMA Scholarships – Application Process

If you are eligible for any of these minority scholarships, you can apply for it online through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). Follow the steps mentioned below to fill the minority scholarship application form.
  • First, the fresh applicants need to register on NSP Portal as a new user by providing correct information.
  • The applicants are advised to keep with them all the necessary documents while applying for their desired scholarship scheme.
  • The applicants are required to provide information regarding their educational qualifications, Aadhaar Number, School/College Enrolment Number, Bank details, and the State of Domicile while filling the registration form.
  • The applicants’ application ID is generated on the basis of their domicile state. This application ID is also used as the ‘Login ID’ on NSP Portal and future references.
  • The candidates also need to select the relevant scholarship category they are applying under. For example, an applicant studying in class 1 to 10 must choose the pre-matric scholarship scheme while filling the form.
  • Details like the applicant’s name, date of birth, email ID, identification details and mobile number must be filled carefully.
  • After filling the registration form, an OTP is generated using which the applicant must log in and fill the scholarship application form. Applicants must upload the necessary document and submit the application form.

MOMA Scholarships – Instructions for Filling Bank Details

  • The applicants must select the name of their bank/branch carefully from the drop-down list.
  • Students are advised to first get their bank account number and IFS code verified by their concerned bank branch and then provide the correct account number while applying for the MOMA scholarships.
  • In case of the incorrect account number, the scholarship will be cancelled.
  • Students must check the status of their ‘Know your Customer’ (KYC). They must get it done if required for the successful disbursal of the scholarship amount in their account.
  • The bank account must be in the name of the applicant.
  • In case of transaction failure, the Ministry of Minority Affairs will not be responsible.

MOMA Scholarships – Selection Process

Pre-Matric Scholarship Scheme for Minorities:

The candidates applying for this minority scholarship are selected on the basis of the applicants’ economic conditions. In case of similar financial conditions, the preference is given to the applicant who is older.

Post-matric Scholarship Scheme for Minorities:

The recipients of post-matric scholarships will be selected on the basis of the financial situation of the candidates. The older candidate is preferred for the scholarship in case of similar family income.

Merit-cum-Means Scholarship for Professional and Technical Courses CS:

The applicants are selected for this minority scholarship on the basis of merit, i.e., percentage/marks of last academic course/board (higher secondary/graduation) exam.
Note: In State-wise allocations, the first preference is given to the applications from listed institutions in the merit list.

MOMA Scholarships – Renewal policy

The scholarships provided to the selected students may be renewed in the next academic year of the course. In order to get the scholarship renewed, the candidates submit a certificate to prove that they have secured at least 50% marks in the previous year’s examination. The national minority scholarship is renewed only when the candidates pursue the same course in the same institution.

MOMA Scholarships – Terms & Conditions

There are a few terms and conditions that must be adhered to by the applicants while applying for these minority scholarships. The details of some of them are highlighted below.
  • 30% of these scholarships are reserved for girl students of each minority community in a State/UT. The scholarships can be transferred to the male candidates of the same community in case of a shortage of female candidates.
  • Not more than two students from a family would receive the scholarship meant for minorities.
  • Students must regularly attend the class.
  • In case of any violation of institute/school’s discipline or any conditions of the scholarships by the student, the scholarship is liable to be cancelled or suspended.
  • The candidates must not provide any false information to obtain a scholarship as it would lead to the cancellation of the scholarship. If the candidate has been paid the scholarship amount, the concerned State/UT Government recovers it.
  • The candidates receive their scholarship amount directly in their bank account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
  • The candidates cannot avail the benefits of any other scholarship scheme if he/she is obtaining benefits from MOMA scholarship scheme.

MOMA Scholarships – Duration

  • The selected students receive the scholarship for the entire course.
  • The maintenance allowance is given annually as a fixed lump sum amount.

MOMA Scholarships – Result

The concerned authority declares the result of these minority scholarships during the months of November and December.
